Produced by Karmann in Rheine, it combined sporty elegance with powerful inline six-cylinder engines ranging from 2.5 to 3.2 liters. The front design with its twin headlights in particular gave it the typical BMW look of the era. A total of around 30,500 units were built – its successor was the BMW 6 Series (E24) from 1976.
