Although not originally designed for the mass market , the Giulietta was realized at the initiative of the US importer Max Hoffmann . Its striking design, with the characteristic V - shaped chrome grille at the front, made the Giulietta a highly desirable vehicle for car enthusiasts . The Giulietta series was a great success for Alfa Romeo, with a total of approximately 177,000 vehicles produced by 1964. It remains a fascinating example of the successful combination of aesthetics and performance .
