N°02 — The Story

A vehicle with provenance.

Condition

This Citroën ID 19 presents in a very good overall condition with a strong focus on originality.

The exterior retains much of its original character, with the elegant black bodywork and contrasting white roof creating the unmistakable appearance of a 1960s French luxury sedan. Chrome details remain in attractive condition, and the vehicle maintains its original design without major modifications.

The interior features the original red fabric upholstery, with the front seats professionally renewed. The white dashboard accents and original-style details create the unique atmosphere of a classic Citroën.

Recent mechanical work has improved reliability and usability, including a new radiator, complete clutch replacement, lubrication service, and installation of an electronic ignition system. The Michelin tires have also been renewed.

The underside remains solid, with only minor surface rust reported and no known structural concerns.

Story

The Citroën DS, introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, was a milestone in automotive history. Its futuristic design, advanced engineering, and exceptional comfort shocked the public and created immediate demand, with thousands of orders placed on the first day of presentation.

The ID 19 was the more accessible version of the DS, offering the same revolutionary styling and famous hydropneumatic suspension technology. Features such as self-leveling suspension, front disc brakes, aerodynamic design, and advanced construction techniques placed Citroën decades ahead of many competitors.

Designed by Flaminio Bertoni, the DS became a symbol of French innovation and elegance. Its ability to “float” over roads thanks to its unique suspension system remains one of the most memorable driving experiences in automotive history.
