N°02 — The Story

A vehicle with provenance.

And then there are cars like this 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II—created in an era when elegance was still more important than speed, and travel was still synonymous with style.

From the very first glance, this coupe transports you back to America’s golden years. To an era filled with jazz, chrome, diners, grand boulevards, and glamorous nights. The long, majestic body in classic white doesn’t look like a car—but rather like a rolling sculpture. Add to that the tasteful red-and-white interior, which immediately evokes the luxurious salons of the 1950s. Anyone who opens the heavy door and takes a seat behind the large steering wheel feels it immediately: this isn’t just any old classic car. Here, you are sitting in one of the most exclusive automobiles of its time.

The Continental Mark II was built only from 1956 to 1957 and was considered at the time the ultimate elite vehicle of the American upper class. Personalities such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and the Shah of Persia were among the prominent owners of this extraordinary model. The car was unveiled in 1955 at the Paris Motor Show—as America’s answer to Europe’s most luxurious vehicles.

Under the seemingly endless hood lies the impressive 6.0-liter V8 with 288 hp, which propels the Continental with confidence and a pleasantly relaxed ease. Exactly as it was once intended: powerful, quiet, and completely relaxed. Thanks to a rebuilt transmission, the automatic shifts pleasantly smoothly and harmoniously. Power steering, fully functional electric seat adjustment, and a working air conditioning system ensure that this classic is still surprisingly comfortable to drive today.

Particularly pleasing: the mechanical systems are in a condition that inspires confidence. All of the electric window motor motors have been replaced, the suspension and brakes function flawlessly, and the chassis shows no signs of rust-through. The gap tolerances are surprisingly precise for an American classic from the 1950s. The paintwork appears well-maintained and harmonious; only a few small paint cracks serve as a subtle reminder that this vehicle has now lived through seven decades of history.

The car originally comes from California and has been in Germany since 2012. Various documents, such as appraisals, classic car reports, and TÜV reports dating back to 2012, document the history of this special vehicle. Of course, the Lincoln will be handed over with a new TÜV certificate.
